Hurricane Erin have spawned tornadoes over the Atlantic Ocean along the United States East Coast.

According to The National Weather Service, Hurricane Erin is not expected to make landfall, but the tri-state area including the Jersey Shore, NYC coastline and parts of Long Island are expected to receive heavy rain, strong winds and minor coastal flooding.

Erin, the earliest storm this year to develop into a Category 5 Hurricane in the Atlantic, has since downgraded.

The National Weather Service said that the tristate area remains under storm watch:

  • “A Moderate Risk of Excessive Rainfall remains in effect. Additionally, tornadoes and damaging winds are possible across the Northeast. Residents and visitors in these regions are reminded to stay weather aware.”
