Stamford Hill, London — Emergency services were called to the scene of a shooting incident Tuesday evening in the center of the Frum Kehillah of Stamford Hill caused by a gang fight.

Responding to the scene were the London Metropolitan Police and London Ambulance Service (LAS), including specialist firearms officers and a LAS air ambulance.

The shooting took place near Morrisons and Heimishe-owned businesses along the busy A10 road. Reportedly, a non-Jewish woman in her 30s was shot in the leg. The shooting was likely due to gang violence.

The woman was treated at the scene before being taken to a trauma center in east London. Her current condition is not known.

Shaye Fischer of the Stamford Hill Shomrim told the British media that he believed the injured woman was accidentally hit in a drive-by gang shooting, “Yes, it was a drive-by shooting from what we are aware. Two [cars] trying to shoot each other, and an innocent bystander got shot.”

A LAS spokesperson told British media, “We were called at 7:41 pm today (May 14) to reports of a shooting at Stamford Hill. We sent [in] resources to the scene, including ambulance crews, an advanced paramedic, an incident response officer and members of our hazardous area response team. We also dispatched London’s Air Ambulance.”

“We treated a patient at the scene before taking her to a major trauma center as a priority,” they added.

No arrests have been made at this time, Metropolitan Police in Hackney are investigating.

While shootings are rare in Britain, a local Askun and community activist in Stamford Hill shared with FrumNews.com that in recent months, crime has been increasing in the area. He added that frum residents are grateful for the Police and Stamford Hill Shomrim, which go above the call of duty, patrolling and preventing crime in the neighborhood.

The Tottenham Conservative Association released a statement, “The violence on our streets must be stopped and it can be stopped. We urge [the reelected Mayor of London] Sadiq Khan to make reducing crime his number one priority.”
