Yerushalyim — In a chilling development, the murder of Jews is now being plotted in the open—as an anonymous hate website posted bounties for terrorizing and the murder of Israeli academics, with profiles and personal details of targets also provided to potential contract killers.

The Jerusalem Post reported that “The Punishment for Justice Movement,” an anonymous hate website suspected of Iranian links, is offering $50,000 for murdering a targeted Israeli academic, $100,000 for the murder of “special targets,” and other financial awards for providing information on them or committing acts of intimidation.

The website, which seems to have been taken down, lists the alleged home addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, social media accounts, and even ID numbers for hundreds of academics from Israeli Universities, Ben-Gurion in the Negev; the Technion; Weizmann Institute; Hebrew University in Yerushalyim, and Tel Aviv University, as well Universities in the U.S. (Harvard), U.K. (Oxford), and the European Organization for Nuclear Research.

The website offers financial rewards for hanging signs in front of the academics’ homes ($2,000), burning their vehicles ($20,000), and even executing them ($50,000), double for special targets ($100,000).

According to the Post, the groups’ “special targets” include Ben Gurion University president Daniel Chamovitz, physicist and activist Shikma Bressler, and former Weizmann president Daniel Zajfman, offering enhanced bounties on their heads.

Some of those listed reside outside of Israel, including in the U.S., Switzerland, and the U.K. Additionally, some of the profiles mentioned the names and details of family members.

Needless to say, this hate group’s bounty system publicly targets academics simply because they are Jewish.

Offering money or a reward for the murder of Jews, we have seen that before, and it always ends terribly. This, even though it might not be real, makes the threat way too real, as terrorists have increasingly attacked the Jewish community over the past several years.

The hate website claims that the academics are “legitimate targets” because—in the group’s words—“they use their knowledge to kill innocent people and children by spreading weapons of mass destruction to the Israeli military.”

University of Oxford computer science professor Michael Bronstein told the Post, he doesn’t regard the threats to him, but “I was profoundly disturbed and shocked that my head was valued so cheaply, considering my standing in the academic community. I find anything below a seven-figure highly offensive. I am, however, consoled that I am at least in a good company.”

The American Jewish Congress wrote on X: “Although the site appears to have been taken down following media exposure, it represents a growing radicalization of the voices who wish to eliminate Israel and Israelis. Such calls for violence are intolerable and demand swift condemnation and action.”

Reports indicate that the Shin Bet and Mossad are investigating the threat, but no official law enforcement organization, FBI, Shin Bet, or MI5, etc., has publicly commented on the threats yet. However, as evidenced by the website being taken down, their eyes were drawn to the threats posted on the website.

The Committee of University Presidents in Israel said in a statement: “We are witnessing a dangerous and horrifying escalation in which a website marks academics and permits their blood through a ‘price list’ offering payment for arson, physical harm, and even murder.

“The grave information has been transferred immediately for urgent handling by the Shin Bet, Israel Police, and the National Cyber Directorate, with the understanding that this is a tangible threat that cannot be delayed.

“The current reality, in which wild incitement from within against researchers, academics, and faculty merges with the global wave of antisemitism and hatred of Israel, creates a toxic and deadly mix that could, G-d forbid, end in loss of life.

“The writing is on the wall in letters of fire. We demand that security agencies act with an iron fist against the operators and shut down this site immediately, and we call on Israel’s leadership to show some responsibility and stop at once the hate speech and incitement directed at Israeli academia before it is too late.”

Pure anti-Semitism, this is a frightening escalation. Doxxing people with the intent to harm them can’t just be ignored.

I hope investigators take this seriously and move quickly. No one should have their life put at risk for simply doing academic work.

It’s hard to believe a site like this can operate openly. This goes far beyond hateful rhetoric
