This week, the Maldives government signed into law officially banning Israeli citizens from entering their country.
Now, they are saying the quiet part out loud: “We don’t want the Jews.”
The original ban would prohibit Israel’s 2+ Million Arab citizens from entering, but after an uproar among the Arab Population, they are rethinking their decision and focusing the ban on the Jews.
Recently, the Maldives Attorney General said that they would try to exempt the Arab-Israeli population from the ban to enter the country. Leaving just the Jews to be banned from the country.
The Maldives, situated in the Indian Ocean, about 470 Miles southwest of India, is a tourist and vacation hotspot—and an expensive one. Luxury 5-star hotels and world-class resorts (with private suites on the ocean) cost hundreds, if not thousands of dollars, per night.
Siding with Hamas terrorists, the President’s office announced that it officially signed into law banning Israeli Jews from entering the country.
Israel’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Oren Marmorstein, responded that they recommend Israelis that are dual citizens with foreign passports—even those with other passports, including U.S., Australian and U.K. citizens— should avoid traveling to the Maldives—even on those passports, due to safety concerns.
The Maldives President also appointed a special envoy to assess “the Palestinian needs” (whatever that means) and launched a “fundraising campaign.”
Once a Jewish hotspot, in 2023, over 11,000 Israelis visited the luxury tourist paradise, accounting for 0.6 percent of the Maldives’ total tourist arrivals. The Maldives tourist market also formerly attracted thousands of Yidden from the U.S., Europe, and Australia, who will undoubtedly never step foot in that country ever again.
Simply, this will hurt their local economy—all for their misplaced ambition.
Since the announcement, Yidden worldwide are calling for a complete boycott on traveling to the Maldives.
Frum travelers say they will seek other “paradise” vacation spots, such as Bora Bora, St. Lucia, Jamaica in the Caribbean, Hawaii and similar locations with better Glatt Kosher food options.
Many FrumNews readers suggested that if one is going on a luxury vacation, especially in such a trying and difficult time for Yidden, they should spend their gelt by traveling to and supporting the local economy of Eretz Yisroel, which can include luxurious vacation spots such as Yam Hamelech Resort, Eilat and Tel Aviv which has many 5-star hotels and resorts.
Dan of the popular frum deals and travel blog DansDeals and avid traveler—who previously visited the Maldives twice—said that he “canceled an upcoming trip to the Waldorf Astoria in the Maldives that he had planned for his 40th birthday.”
