Severe Thunderstorms, Dangerous Flash-Flooding And Tornado Warning Alert Issued For New York and New Jersey

New York and New Jersey are bracing for the threat of a severe thunderstorm, including heavy rain, flash flooding and damaging wind gusts and a Tornado warning

New York and New Jersey are bracing for the threat of severe weather – including thunderstorms, heavy rain, damaging wind gusts flash flooding and even a Tornado warning – Thursday into Friday. Weather forecast is predicting water levels to rise near NYC. Many trees and power lines are being reported down in the Catskills near Bungalow colonies and Jewish summer camps.

The National Weather Service issued a StormWind, and Flood Alert for New York State, NYC and New Jersey. NYC Emergency Management issued a warning to make preparations ahead of the storm.

The weather service warned that the tristate area, including the Catskills may receive very heavy rainfall, strong winds, and flooding.

  • Strong Winds: New York, New Jersey, will have damaging high wind gusts.
  • Flooding: A Flood Watch is in effect for all areas – Avoid driving if possible.
  • Coastal Flooding: Coastal Flood Warnings and Advisories are in effect.
  • Severe Thunderstorms: Strong to severe thunderstorms Monday night into Tuesday morning. Potential for large hail, damaging winds, and a couple of tornadoes.

Additional, storm warnings for the tri-state area Thursday, periods of heavy rain may exacerbate flooding by clogged storm drains and catch basins at street intersections in Brooklyn and New York City.
