Rockland County, NY — In a historic vote, four Orthodox Jewish residents were elected to trustee positions at the Finkelstein Memorial Library.
The voting for six local residents running in this election, was held today in the East Ramapo School district, which includes the Jewish communities of Monsey, Spring Valley, Chestnut Ridge, Kaser, New Square, New Hempstead, Wesley Hills, Pomona and a small portion of Airmont and Viola.
The four winners who were elected as a trustee at the Finkelstein Memorial Library are:
Esther Waldman, a Mechaneches and Title I director, received 479 votes.
Goldie Golding, a children’s book author and University professor received 460 votes.
Yossi Rubinstein, CEO of Rubinstein & Co. and founder of the Yizkor Foundation, received 417 votes.
Yehudis Gottesfeld, a Chemical Environmental Engineer, received 408 votes.
Waldman and Golding are elected for a five-year term, and Rubinstein and Gottesfeld are elected for a four-year term.
The library also voted on its 2025–2026 budget increase, which would raise taxes and failed to pass. The proposed library budget was rejected by voters, with 336 voting “No” and 296 voting “Yes.
