Boro Park—The Queens-bound section of the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway (BQE) will be closed to traffic along the Brooklyn Heights waterfront for the third and final round of comprehensive repairs this weekend.

The Queens-bound BQE will be fully closed from the Atlantic Avenue entrance ramp to the Manhattan Bridge exit ramp (Sands Street) from Shabbos, June 1, at 2 a.m. to Monday, June 3, at 4 a.m.

The closure of the BQE, which carries 150,00 vehicles a day, will allow contractors to add new concrete and reinforce steel bars at spans near Clark Street and Grace Court as part of short-term work to extend the lifespan of the deteriorating Triple Cantilever while a permanent solution can be devised.

The Department of Transportation said to expect heavy delays or to avoid the BQE during scheduled closures.

“We are approaching the third and final phase of our interim repair work for 2024 on the BQE to preserve its lifespan and keep it in a state of good repair,” said NYC DOT Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez. “As we did in October and April we will keep the public closely updated on our progress as we plan ahead for this work.”

Traffic will be rerouted along Brooklyn streets, including Atlantic, Third, Fourth and Flatbush avenues.
