Rockland County, NY – New York State Senator Bill Weber (R-38) toured the Viznitz Matzah bakery in Monsey, and got to witness the process of how Matzah is made.
In the weeks leading up to Pesach—many local, state and even national elected officials and public figures, on both sides of the aisle and political spectrum throughout America, visit their local Matzah Bakeries, to learn about Passover and to show support for the Jewish community.
What makes this visit from Senator Weber, different—and Special, is that this wasn’t just a customary show of support, (which are all much appreciated by their local Jewish community). But, Senator Weber is at the forefront in the New York State Senate, fighting against an [green energy] environmental regulation that can destroy New York City’s Matzah Bakeries.
The regulation, which was intended to go after NYC Pizza shops that use coal and wood burning ovens, puts matzah bakeries as collateral damage, since it goes after all locations with coal and wood burning ovens.
As reported by the New York Post, one NY Matzah Bakery already spent nearly $700,000 on modification air filters to comply with this regulation. Others will eventually have to decide if they want to comply, which will most likely significantly raise their Matzah prices, or to be shut down.
Senator Weber argues that this environmental regulation is anti-business and would do little to actually help the fight against pollution, he is further calling for NY’s iconic Matzah Bakeries to be excluded from the regulation.
