NY, NJ Issues Storm, Wind And Flooding Alert For Wednesday

A Storm, Wind, and Flood Alert was issued for New York State and New Jersey, Including the areas of Brooklyn, Monsey and Lakewood. Warning ahead of a potential storm Wednesday, April 3.

The National Weather Service issued a StormWind, and Flood Alert for New York State and New Jersey. NYC Emergency Management issued a similar warning ahead of a potential storm Wednesday, April 3.

The weather service warned that the tristate area may receive very heavy rainfall, strong winds, and flooding.

  • Strong Winds: New York, New Jersey, wind gusts will peak in the 35-45 mph range.
  • Flooding: A Flood Watch is in effect for all areas – Avoid driving if possible.
  • Coastal Flooding: Coastal Flood Warnings and Advisories in effect. Moderate coastal flooding along Atlantic coastal NJ impacting the high tides – The greatest threat is for moderate coastal flooding in the warning area south of Lakewood and north Atlantic City.
  • Severe Thunderstorms: A few strong to severe thunderstorms are possible, mainly across southern New Jersey, Wednesday afternoon and early evening. Potential for large hail, damaging winds, and a couple of tornadoes.

Additionally, as a storm moves through the tri-state area Wednesday, a Coastal Flood Watch is in effect, periods of moderate to briefly heavy rain may exacerbate flooding by clogged storm drains and catch basins at street intersections in Brooklyn and New York City.
