BREAKING NEWS! Republican candidate for New Jersey Governor, Jack Ciattarelli, calls on NJ State to change primary Election Day since it falls out on Shavous
by FrumNews.com
Trenton, NJ, In a letter addressed to Philip D. Murphy Office of Governor, Nicholas P. Scutari Senate President and Craig J. Coughlin Assembly Speaker. Republican candidate for New Jersey Governor, Jack Ciattarelli requests that the state of New Jersey change the dates for the 2025 NJ primary elections to accommodate Orthodox Jews since that date fall out on the Jewish holiday of Shavous making it impossible for the orthodox Jewish community to participate in the elections.
- Dear Sirs,
As you are aware, next year’s Primary Election is currently scheduled for Tuesday, June 3 – creating a conflict for voters observing the Jewish holiday of Shavuot.
As part of their observance, a significant number of Jewish residents are obligated to forgo daily activities like traveling or the use of electronics, which would effectively prohibit them from participating in the election.
I think we can all agree that practicing one’s religion should never force someone to be excluded or limited in any way from an opportunity to participate in our democracy.
To that end, I believe legislative action is warranted to change the date of next year’s Primary Election from Tuesday, June 3 to Wednesday, June 4. As a candidate for office next year, I am writing to express my personal support for this move – as I am sure other candidates in both parties will do as well – and am hopeful you will agree.
Sincerely,
Jack Ciattarelli
