New York State Assemblyman Lester Chang Visits Israel with Historic Delegation

During the visit, Assemblyman Chang prayed at the Western Wall, toured Yad Vashem, and met with Israeli leaders including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu

New York State Assemblyman Lester Chang, who represents the 49th Assembly District — including Dyker Heights, Bensonhurst, Boro Park, and Sunset Park — recently traveled to Israel as part of the bipartisan 50 States, One Israel delegation. The mission brought together more than 250 elected officials from across the country, including eight from New York, to strengthen ties and learn firsthand about Israel’s history, culture, and people.

During the visit, Assemblyman Chang prayed at the Western Wall, toured Yad Vashem, and met with Israeli leaders including President Isaac Herzog and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He also spoke with families affected by the October 7th attacks and witnessed the resilience of communities rebuilding in their aftermath.

Assemblyman Chang is the sponsor of Assembly Bill A6049, which would establish October 7th as an annual Day of Remembrance in New York State. The bill is intended to ensure that the tragedy is never forgotten and that New Yorkers stand united against hatred and violence.

Reflecting on his trip, Assembly Member Chang noted that a few days were not enough to take in the full depth of the country. “Israel is a place with an extraordinary history and culture,” he said. “It is a beautiful country with very warm people, and there is so much to see and to learn. I would gladly return, as there is always more to understand.”

Assemblyman Chang’s participation in the delegation underscores his commitment to representing all the communities of the 49th District while engaging in dialogue that builds bridges abroad and at home.
