Rockland County, NY – Matzil Search and Rescue (SAR) volunteer members are actively responding to the ongoing natural disaster from the Hurricane in North Carolina. The dedicated team is currently engaged in rescue operations, demonstrating their commitment to community safety and support in times of need.
Nationally certified Matzil SAR volunteers were deployed from New York earlier this week, after traveling for many hours with heavy equipment, they have established temporary headquarters at the Chabad of Asheville, NC, many community members that attend Chabad have been unaccounted for.
Matzil is working with local authorities, and being sent to many hard to reach locations and remote homes that local authorities have been requested to assist.
A woman in her 50s that attends Chabad, was successfully rescued yesterday from a remote cabin in the Foothills of Pisgah National Forest after being stranded for over 48 hours. Upon rescue, she was found to be dehydrated but in overall good health. Without phone service, her husband courageously hiked from the cabin through strenuous terrain and rubble, navigating blocked roads and fallen trees, to reach authorities and alert them to her situation.
The Matzil team hiked over 2 miles through extremely difficult terrain and washed out roads to reach the location and conduct the rescue. Helping many people in need of assistance along the way.
