Manhattan, NY – The jury has reached a verdict in Donald J. Trump‘s high-profile criminal trial in New York City. After deliberations, the 12-member jury found Trump guilty on all 34 charges. Unanimity was required for any verdict.
Justice Juan Merchan, the presiding judge in the trial, set sentencing for July 11—days before the start of the Republican National Convention on July 15, in which Donald Trump is the presumed nominee with over 2,000 delegates.
Outside the courtroom, Donald Trump slammed the verdict, telling reporters, “This was a disgrace. This was a rigged trial by a conflicted liberal judge who is corrupt. The real verdict is going to be [the] November 5 election by the people.”
“My civil rights have been totally violated with this highly political, unconstitutional, and election-interfering witch hunt. Our failing nation is being laughed at all over the world!” Trump later wrote on Truth Social Media.
Trump faces a maximum of four years in prison, though others convicted under these charges often receive shorter sentences, fines, or even probation. Trump will not be jailed before sentencing in July.
Falsifying business documents is a misdemeanor in New York. However, prosecutors claimed it to be a felony on the grounds that Trump was concealing an illegal campaign contribution.
Reportedly, the Secret Service had discussions with NY correctional officials about the possibility of jail time.
