Jerusalem, Israel – Several months ago, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán invited Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to Budapest, making Hungary the first country which is a member of the International Criminal Court (ICC) to publicly declare that it will ignore the court’s ludicrous arrest warrant for PM Netanyahu.

On Thursday, Minister of The Hungarian Prime Minister’s Office, Gergely Gulyás, at a news conference in Budapest told the media, that Netanyahu has accepted Orbán’s invitation and would be visiting Hungary within weeks, with the exact date to be determined.

In November, 2024, Orbán accused the ICC of “interfering in an ongoing conflict for political purposes. We will defy this decision. I will guarantee Mr Netanyahu, when he visits, that the judgment will have no effect in Hungary and that we will not follow its terms.” Orbán said.

Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó criticized the ICC’s warrant as “absurd.”

Netanyahu praised Hungary for its stance on the warrant.

In a statement, Bryan E. Leib, Managing Director of Henry Public Relations and Senior Fellow at the Center for Fundamental Rights in Budapest, Hungary, who is also considered to be on President Trump’s shortlist for U.S. Ambassador to Hungary, stated:

  • “Prime Minister Netanyahu’s upcoming visit to Hungary is a testament to the unshakable bond between Jerusalem and Budapest. Under PM Viktor Orbán’s leadership, Hungary has become the safest country in Europe for Jews. At a time when antisemitism is surging in the West and many European governments waver in their support for Israel, Hungary stands firm as Israel’s most reliable ally in Europe—defending Jewish life, supporting Israel on the world stage at the UN and the EU, and rejecting the forces of radicalism and terror. Israel has no greater friend in Europe than Hungary and PM Orbán.” Leib said.
