Former United States Senator Joseph (Yosef) I. Lieberman was niftar on Wednesday afternoon in New York City due to complications after a fall. He was 82. 

Joe Lieberman was born in Stamford, Connecticut, on Zayin Adar 5702. His father was a former bakery truck driver who eventually saved enough to buy a liquor store. 

In 1992, he was elected to the US Senate, representing Connecticut, and served until his retirement in 2012. He was the first frum Shomer Shabbos Senator, a staunch supporter of Eretz Yisroel, and a champion of issues related to the Jewish community. 

He was also the first Jew on a national ticket of a national party, as the Vice Presidential candidate in 2000, alongside Democrat Al Gore. 

In 2009, he made a massive Kiddush Hashem, when he walked 5 miles on Shabbos from his Shul in Georgetown to vote on amendments to the Affordable Care Act.

The levaya and kvura is scheduled for Friday, March 29, 2024, at Congregation Agudath Sholom in his hometown of Stamford, CT.
