Senate Confirms Jack Lew as Israel’s New Ambassador
The Senate voted on Tuesday to confirm Jack Lew – a Frum Yid – to be the new U.S. ambassador to Israel, with the confirmation passing by with 53-43.
The Democratic bloc voted unanimously. Only two Republican Senators – Sens. Rand Paul, of Kentucky, and Lindsey Graham, of South Carolina – voting in favor.
The U.S. has not had a Senate-confirmed ambassador to Israel since the former ambassador Tom Nides left the administration in July. Stephanie Hallett, a career diplomat, has been the top official at the U.S. Embassy in the interim.
This vote comes as Congress gears up for a fight over how to provide funding to support Israel in its war against Hamas.
Video: The confirmation herring
The unbelievable inhumanity of Hamas has been heartbreaking—killing, raping, brutalizing, and kidnapping of innocent Israeli civilians, including children. We must do everything in our power to secure the release of hostages and support the victims of these terrorist attacks. pic.twitter.com/y1nx7D4UJf
