Jerusalem, Israel – As Yom Hazikaron is upon us, Israel & the Jewish people pause to honor those who gave their lives for our nation’s survival. This Yom Hazikaron, is a sacred moment of grief and gratitude for the soldiers and civilians who fell defending our homeland. In 2025, with war still raging, their sacrifices resonate with urgent clarity, calling us to unite and renew our commitment to the values they died for.
Yom Hazikaron began after Israel’s War of Independence, a time when a nascent state mourned its heroes while fighting for existence. Today, as 59 families are still waiting for their loved ones, we face similar trials. The fallen—from the Six-Day War’s paratroopers to the young soldiers lost in Gaza & Lebanon this year—did not die for fleeting politics or division. They died for a Jewish homeland, a safe haven that strives for peace even amidst conflict. Their courage demands we honor them not just with sorrow, but with action.
This Yom Hazikaron, I give honor to my fallen comrades of the IDF’s 22nd Battalion, “Carmeli” Brigade: Shlomo Aviad Naiman, Mordechai Chaim Amoyal, Shmuel Harari, and Shuvael Ben-Natan HY”D who fell in combat in Lebanon on Oct 23rd, 2024. Their bravery wasn’t fueled by headlines but by duty to Am Yisrael. Each left behind families and a challenge: to build a nation worthy of their sacrifice. In wartime, this challenge feels heavier, yet more vital.
This Yom Hazikaron, let’s move beyond ceremonies. Honoring the fallen means supporting their families, strengthening our resilience, and bridging divides that weaken us. It means listening to one another, even when we disagree, to fortify the unity our enemies seek to shatter. Visit a military cemetery, share a fallen soldier’s story, or volunteer with organizations aiding bereaved families. And as sirens sound, let them remind us of the cost of our freedom.
In a nation under fire, Yom Hazikaron is both a mourning and a rallying cry. The fallen fought for a strong, united Israel. Let’s honor them by recommitting to that vision—not just on this day, but every day, until Israel prevails.
