BREAKING: Passenger Plane En-Route To Russia Crashes, 28 Survive
Commercial Aircraft Crash - Dozens killed and 28 survive from the Azerbaijan Airlines plane crash today
Kazakhstan’s Emergencies Ministry reports that dozens were killed and there are 28 survivors from the Azerbaijan Airlines Embraer E190 commercial aircraft crash near Aktau today.
The flight carried 67 people, including 62 passengers and 5 crew members.
It was en route from Baku, Azerbaijan to Grozny, Russia when a bird strike reportedly forced the plane to send an SOS and attempt an emergency landing in Kazakhstan.
The aircraft, which attempted an emergency landing, crashed near Aktau Airport and split in-half. The front section of the plane caught fire, the survivors who were all injured, were seated in the rear of the aircraft.
Over 150 firefighters and 45 pieces of equipment responded.
28 Survivors are hospitalized and are receiving medical care as investigations into the crash continue.
