The Maldives government banned Israelis from traveling to their country and prohibited Israeli passport holders from entering.
The Maldives, situated in the Indian Ocean, about 470 Miles southwest of India, is a tourist and vacation hotspot—and an expensive one. Luxury 5-star hotels and resorts (with private suites on the ocean) cost hundreds, if not thousands, per night.
Siding with Hamas terrorists, the President’s office announced that it would ban Israelis from entering the country.
Israel’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Oren Marmorstein, responded that they recommend Israelis avoid travel to the Maldives, including dual citizens with foreign passports—even those with other passports, including U.S., Australian and U.K. citizens—and those currently there should consider leaving immediately due to safety concerns.
The Maldives President also said he would appoint a special envoy to assess “the Palestinian needs” (whatever that means) and launch a “fundraising campaign.”
Nearly 11,000 Israelis visited the luxury tourist hotspot last year, accounting for 0.6 percent of the Maldives’ total tourist arrivals. The tourist market also attracts thousands of Yidden from the U.S., Europe, and Australia, who will undoubtedly never step foot in that country ever again for this.
Simply, this will undoubtedly hurt their local economy—all for their misplaced ambition.
Since the announcement, Yidden worldwide are calling for a complete boycott on traveling to the Maldives.
Frum travelers say they will seek other “paradise” vacations, such as Bora Bora, St. Lucia, Jamaica in the Caribbean, Hawaii and similar locations with better Glatt Kosher food options.
Many FrumNews.com readers suggested that if one is going on a luxury vacation, especially in such a trying and difficult time for Yidden, they should spend their gelt by going to and supporting the economy of Eretz Yisroel, which can include luxurious vacation spots such as Yam Hamelech Resort, Eilat and Tel Aviv.
Dan of the popular frum deals and travel blog DansDeals and avid traveler—who previously visited the Maldives twice—said that he “just canceled an upcoming trip to the Waldorf Astoria in the Maldives that he had planned for his 40th birthday later this year.”
