Op-Ed: The Endless Lawfare Against Trump Matters For You

Although I do not agree with many of Donald Trump’s policies, I feel that many of his pronouncements are inflammatory, and I find his wardrobe garish and his style boorish, I will go to the barricades to defend his constitutional rights. We cannot allow him to be made an object of ridicule in a hunt that permits forces in the United States to weaponize the judicial system and the media so they can topple any political figure for any reason.

The operation “tar and feather Donald Trump” employs the made-for-television Department of Justice antics that draw inspiration from Stalin’s show trials. These carnivals have reached their absurd extreme and citizens must reject this degradation of our legal system.

The three-ring Justice Department-media-congressional complex that is single-mindedly following Trump everywhere has created a deadly political weapon.

As a fellow candidate for president, I feel that I must stand with Trump on this issue for the sake of our nation.

Let us consider the trials that Trump has been dragged into.

The first impeachment of Trump for Russian influence showed politics in America at a new low. Trump was accused of taking Russian money in a treasonous conspiracy and dragged in front of a smug congressman who takes in tons of money from foreign governments and corporations for their favors.

The evidence selected was intentionally flimsy, indicating a ready contempt for due process. The congressmen who voted to impeach Trump did not talk about limiting lobbying by, or donations from, foreign countries. No, they were happy with their dark money. They just did not like how Trump had violated their club rules.

The second impeachment was an even more serious constitutional crisis and even more comical play. Congressmen conveniently ignored the institutionalized criminality that makes them rich and trained the spotlight on the so-called “January 6 insurrection,” an event made up of rowdy protesters whipped up confusion. All this was used for a propaganda campaign against Trump “MAGA” supporters.

This farce was not limited to Trump. In the months that followed, those who correctly stated that COVID-19 was not dangerous, masks were ineffective, vaccines were dangerous, or lockdowns were unconstitutional were quickly labeled as right-wing extremists.

Those legal attacks on Trump and his supporters also permitted the corporate media to render any questioning of the results of the 2020 election a crime. Thereafter, the legitimacy of the election of Biden was beyond question and anyone who doubted it was labeled as an extremist.

Although it is hard to determine who won the deeply corrupt 2020 election, it most certainly was not Joe Biden. The only legitimate response to that constitutional crisis would have been to hold the election again.

The lawfare to keep Trump down did not stop there. A series of campaigns were launched to keep Donald Trump off the ballot in 2024 for his alleged leadership in the “insurrection”.

Anyone who looked at the actual facts of January 6 would know in a second the ridiculousness of the charges—and yet few indeed did so.

The combination of these show trials with an unending string of cartoons and memes in social media that portray Trump as a crazy man has convinced some Americans that we can blame everything wrong on Trump. Doing so will keep them from identifying the takeover of our nation by a handful of the super-rich via their banks and corporations.

I wonder who would benefit from that?

The prosecutors and judges in these trials took a sledge hammer to the Constitution, creating an “anything goes” environment wherein anyone can be punished at any time. No need any more for political kingpins to worry about elections, legal processes, the Constitution, or even the facts when they want to punish someone.

The blitz of reports, coming out of nowhere, about Robert Kennedy’s “brain parasite” demonstrates that this technique will soon be applied to others.

We must reject this assault on the rule of law because the attacks on Donald Trump today are not a defense of democracy, but an attack on all our civil rights.
