Voting For The Future Of NYC: Staying Home Is Not An Option

If the New York City Mayoral election was held at the time this gets printed (today) Mamdani wins. What can the Jewish community do to stop Mamdani from winning?
If the New York City Mayoral election was held at the time this gets printed [today] Zohran Mamdani, wins. His victory fueled by the very radicals who shut down the city whenever they feel like it. He is a proud Democratic socialist. The problem is, Mamdani is a very skilled politician with a ton of volunteers.
Winning elections isn’t magic, it is hard work and excellent strategy. When Westchester County rejected Jamaal Bowman (who Mamdani is rumored to pick to lead the NYC Department of Education) it was all because the community was hyper engaged in that race. You don’t win if you don’t show up. Instead of discussing sports or even Trump, we need to ask ourselves what we are willing to do to keep this city from going down the wrong path?
The lesson from Westchester County is we cannot be complacent. We need to get as many people registered to vote in every Jewish community all across the five boroughs. The deadline is October 25, 2025, to register right before early voting starts.
We can’t afford to sit this race out. We already have in Brooklyn and Queens Less frum Jewish voters than we had 6 years ago. Many may not realize, but even with the growth, Baruch Hashem, of the NYC frum community, as of the start of 2025 there were less frum voters than there was before Covid. With all the chaos during Covid—since then an unprecedented amount of young frum families have moved out of New York City, away from the neighborhoods that they grew up in, and moved to places like Rockland County, Long Island, New Jersey and Florida, among other locations including many smaller up-and-coming thriving Jewish communities.
So we need to step up our game!
Activism should not be relegated to the very few. Every family should make sure their members are registered and ready to vote. The stakes are way too high. It will be nearly impossible to undo the damage of a potential Mamdani administration. District leaders, Jewish elected officials and community activists of districts in our community should lead the charge to make sure every single vote counts and matters. It’s the only way.
We can’t afford to fall asleep at the wheel. Before we decide who to vote for, we need the volume of votes to actually make a difference. When our Zeidy’s and Bubby’s came to this country after the Holocaust, they were eager to vote. Now more than ever we need to follow their lead.
With the right amount of Hishtadlus (initiative) we can show the political world that we won’t stand for politicians who disrespect us and disenfranchise us. We have about 60 days to get this right, and with Hashem’s help, the community will do the right thing. But the time to act is now
Non participation only allows you deniability. It does not excuse you from the guilt of non opposition.
