Tragedy has once again struck the Lakewood community as news spread of the petirah of 8-weeks-old Chana Ahuva Chaitofsky a”h.

Chana was found unconscious at around 1:45 PM after being mistakenly left in a car parked near a local Kollel in Lakewood. Reportedly, she was left there for over two hours.

The temperature in Lakewood was in the mid-90s at the time.

Hatzolah rushed to the scene but was unable to revive her.

Efforts are now underway to ensure the body will be released quickly for kevurah.

As the weather reaches record highs, similar tragedies have occurred in the past few years in Miami, Sderot, and Beis Shemesh.

According to local sources, a number of camps and preschools in the tri-state area are increasing efforts to combat this tragedy. With a change in routine and schedule—especially with hot weather—it is important to safeguard and implement reminders not to forget a child in the car.

A good deterrent is for the Morah to call after a pre-set time if the baby does not come after 10:15 a.m. It should be mandatory to take attendance each morning and call both parents if the baby or child is not, thereby 10:30 a.m.

The family was notified of the tragedy.

When driving put one of your shoes with the child . You won’t go out with one of your shoes missing . Also when driving don’t use your phone . Most of these tragedies occur when you’re distracted by a phone call
