Brooklyn, NY – On Tuesday before Yom Kippur, in the early morning hours, two female victims were robbed and assaulted at the Ft. Hamilton Parkway train station in Boro Park.
The incident began when the victims, Nurses who had just finished their shift at Maimonides Medical Center in Borough Park, were followed by the suspect from Ft. Hamilton Parkway and 46th Street to the subway train platform, where he violently assaulted and robbed them of their phones. Although police responded quickly to canvas the area, the suspect had already fled.
Shmira volunteers assisted police with video cameras, and after many hours of work by the Shmira surveillance team reviewing video footage from local community stores part of Shmira’s CCTV database, they obtained a clear picture of the suspect.
Collaborating with the NYPD’s 66th Precinct, Shmira volunteers continued to track down the perpetrator, and on Thursday afternoon, they spotted the wanted suspect on Ft. Hamilton Parkway. The NYPD responded swiftly and took him into custody.
In a statement to FrumNews.com, a Shmira spokesperson praised the teamwork between their volunteers, the NYPD’s 66th Precinct officers and leadership, and the Brooklyn Transit robbery squad, which led to the quick resolution of this case and the removal of this violent criminal from the streets of Boro Park.
Editors note: Several weeks ago a Jewish Boro Park woman was assaulted at this train station in a similar incident, at this time it seems that these attacks are completely unrelated to each other.
