NHTSA Issues Recall for Honda, Toyota, Acura Vehicles

Washington, D.C. — The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced that Honda which includes Acura, as well as Toyota has issued a recall for an estimated of 300,000 vehicles due to damaged engines that might run improperly or stall while driving, increasing the risk of a fire, crash, or injury.

The recall includes different models and years and is due to a manufacturing error where “the connecting rod bearing in the engine may wear and seize, damaging the engine.”

No injuries have been reported from the manufacturing error, but nearly 1,500 warranty claims have been filed for the issue.

Vehicle owners subject to the recall will be notified by their vehicle manufacturer, whereupon dealers will repair, upgrade the software and inspect suspect vehicles at no charge.

Dealers are to reprogram the unit for free and notification letters are expected to be mailed no later than March 17.
