New Bill Would Require New Jersey DMV To Print Cards Same Day

Lakewood, New Jersey — On the long list of frustrations residents often have with any DMV office is the long wait to receive a License in the mail.

Currently, if you make an in-person appointment for a REAL ID driver’s license, you won’t be able to take it with you when you leave. 

The way REAL ID licenses are printed requires you to wait for them to arrive in the mail, usually within about 10 days.

A bipartisan bill, recently introduced by State Senator Robert (Bob) Singer (R-30), who previously served as the Mayor of Lakewood, and State Senator Patrick Diegnan, Jr. (D-18), aims to tackle the issue for New Jersey Residents. 

The bill would require New Jersey’s DMV to allow all customers who have an in-person appointment to receive certain documents and a fully active DMV license or permit card on the spot at any DMV office (see full list below) and not wait weeks for it to arrive in the mail. 

The bill authors state it would “require the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission to provide all customers who have an in-person appointment to receive certain documents at any commission agency location within the State with the option to receive the new or renewed document on the same day at the appointment and prior to leaving the commission agency location, provided that the customer has completed the proper application and provided any necessary payment.”
