Masbia & DoorDash Celebrate 200,000 Deliveries with 2,000 Emergency Food Packages to be Delivered on Reb Shayeleh Kerestirer’s Yahrzeit

Masbia Soup Kitchen Network will be honoring the legacy of Reb Shayeleh Kerestirer Z”L, tomorrow on his 100th Yahrzeit, who is known for his efforts to feed the hungry
BROOKLYN, NY — On Thursday, May 1 (3 Iyar), Masbia Soup Kitchen Network – honoring the legacy of Reb Shayeleh Kerestirer Z”L, who is known for his efforts to feed the hungry – will deliver 2,000 emergency food packages to families experiencing food insecurity. This special distribution marks Reb Shayeleh’s 100th yahrzeit and falls on the heels of Masbia’s 20th anniversary in Nissan/April 2005, a tradition of charitable action they’ve upheld every year.
Coming off a record-breaking Passover season – with a public Seder, two hot holiday meals daily across all eight days, and thousands of package deliveries containing fresh produce, Masbia is once again expanding its reach to ensure no family goes hungry.
This milestone isn’t just about this one day’s distribution. It also celebrates 200,000 food deliveries of over two million meals achieved through Masbia’s groundbreaking partnership with DoorDash since 2022 – a supercharged collaboration combining deeply discounted rates, free delivery credits, and targeted cash grants to cover both food and logistics.
“Reaching 200,000 deliveries is a testament to what’s possible when innovation meets compassion,” said Alexander Rapaport, Executive Director of Masbia. “First, we restore dignity—meals arrive discreetly at people’s doorsteps, eliminating the stigma of waiting in a breadline. Second, we reclaim space—no more on-site storage of bulky inventory, so our kitchens stay organized and efficient. Third, we rescue perishable and short-dated items—immediately delivering them to families rather than risking spoilage. This partnership lets us act faster, waste less, and maximize the impact of every donation.”
“We’re proud to celebrate over 200,000 deliveries in partnership with Masbia,” said Daniel Riff, Head of Government and Nonprofit Operations at DoorDash. “Together, we’ve ensured that thousands of families receive meals that respect their traditions, especially during sacred times such as Passover. We’re honored to join Masbia in their mission of ensuring that no one goes hungry, and commend their incredible twenty years of service to the community.”
The special delivery will include lots of fresh produce in addition to three items that fall into the food rescue category: Middle Eastern Labaneh donated by Tnuva USA, vacuum packed beets donated by Gefen and hummus donated by Holy Hummus. All of them have an early May sell-by date and can only be delivered in time to families in need because of the partnership with DoorDash.
