This is not the first time since October 7, that Lufthansa and other international airlines have flip-flopped on flying to Israel, time will tell if this is temporary or permanent.

Sources in the aviation industry credit the pending “Hostage deal” as the reason for Lufthansa’s decision to resume flights.

Republican members of Congress have called on U.S. airline carriers, including American Airlines to immediately resume direct US-Israel flights

Tel Aviv, Israel – The German Lufthansa Group, Europe’s second-largest airline (which includes its namesake airline Lufthansa, Swiss, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, and Eurowings), will resume its direct flights to Tel Aviv, Israel, the group announced.

Lufthansa suspended its flights to and from Tel Aviv following the outbreak of war, when Hamas launched its brutal terror attack on Eretz Yisroel during Simchas Torah.

According to the airline, flights will resume on February 1, 2025. “In the first phase, Lufthansa Airlines will initially offer four weekly flights from Frankfurt and three weekly flights from Munich. In addition, Austrian Airlines is planning eight weekly connections and SWISS five weekly flights. In a first step, the Lufthansa Group airlines will thus offer a total of 20 weekly connections to and from Tel Aviv”

In regard to safety, the airline stated, “Safety is always a top priority for the airlines. The Lufthansa Group continues to monitor the security situation in Israel closely and is in close contact with the local and international authorities. Possible flight schedule adjustments must be expected due to changing conditions.” The airline added.
