Flatbush Brooklyn – A new force of frum activism enters the GOP Republican primaries this election season with frum yid, community activist Izzy (Yisroel) Weiss challenging incumbent Assemblyman Michael Novakhov in NY District-45, which includes parts of Flatbush, Midwood and Southern Brooklyn.

Izzy, a graduate of Yeshiva of Brooklyn and Yeshiva Mikdash Melech, is well-known in Flatbush for working at the Hat Box for many years, as well as for his political activism as an senior aide to Frum Flatbush/Midwood Councilwoman Inna Vernikov, Weiss, previously served as an aide to former Frum Boro Park Assemblyman Dov Hikind.

His own accomplishments include a street co-naming ceremony for Moshe Berkowitz, a close friend killed by an intoxicated driver in 2010. He is running on tackling antisemitism, public safety, and support for our Yeshivos.

On the rise of antisemitism and hate crimes, Izzy says his record holds, “Whether as part of my work with Assemblyman Dov Hikind, Councilwoman Inna Vernikov, or Americans Against Antisemitism, I have and always will take a zero tolerance approach to hate crimes regardless of the identities of the attacker and victim. We must uphold a single standard so that every single New Yorker, regardless of background or affiliation, can feel secure and have the confidence that should such a crime be committed, justice will be served.”

Izzy has a number of endorsements, including his former boss, Dov Hikind, who spoke highly of him, “I am proud to have worked with Izzy over the last decade and have always counted on him to be ready at any time, to stand with me and our community, especially when it comes to fighting antisemitism. Izzy means what he says, is never afraid to say what needs to be said. Izzy doesn’t back down and we need courageous leaders now more than ever. I have no doubt that Izzy Weiss, when elected to office G-d willing, will be someone you can count on.”

Also endorsing is Councilwoman Inna Vernikov, she wrote on Twitter, “There’s an ACTUAL conservative REPUBLICAN running for the 45th Assembly District.”

Izzy said about his chances of getting the votes he needs, “The time to act is now. Every single person can make a huge difference by voting and by registering to vote.”
