“Should We Cowardly Away From Protests?”—That question is what the Flatbush community has been asking after a Pro-Eretz Yisroel event was canceled.

Yesterday, Wednesday, a popular annual Pro-Eretz Yisroel event was scheduled to take place at a Flatbush Shul on Avenue N. It followed similar events in Teaneck, Montreal, Toronto, and the Five Towns.

The Sunday event in Teaneck NJ drew a large crowd — as well a large crowd of Pro-Hamas gangs, who turned violent and forced the Police and SWAT teams to be brought in to stop the gangs. The police arrested 2 violent protesters.

In Flatbush, event organizers met with officials from the New York Police Department ahead of the event, who encouraged them to cancel the event, which was eventually decided on.

Although the Flatbush event was canceled due to safety concerns, Nevertheless a small group of anti-Israel agitators still showed up.

Frum NYPD community affairs lieutenant Ira Jablonsky and Frum NYPD deputy chief Ritchie Taylor along with dozens of local police officers helped secure the area from the violent protesters with additional patrols from Flatbush Shmira and Shomrim.

Izzy Weiss of Frum Flatbush Councilwoman Inna Vernikov‘s office spoke in support of this annual pro-Eretz Yisroel event. Izzy said in a statement to FrumNews.com, “We are the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of Holocaust survivors. They did not suffer unimaginable horrors just so we could cower in fear over some clowns wearing dish rags and carrying flags of a made-up country. We are proud Yidden. And we will not be intimidated.”

Izzy’s statement to FrumNews.com about not cowering to agitators was echoed by many Flatbush residents, who stated that this is not the first event in Flatbush to be canceled because of violent agitators, and unfortunately, if we keep on giving in, this won’t be the last event either.

Former Boro Park Assemblyman Dov Hikind released a video on social media, calling it a Chutzpah that in 2024 Frum Yidden in Brooklyn are forced to hide because of anti-Semitism.

At the same time, while being disturbed that the event was canceled, local Yidden expressed hakaras hatov to the event organizers, Askunim, and all those involved who canceled the event because they did it for the Klal’s Safety with only the best intentions in mind.

This canceled event led to much achdut in the Flatbush Kehilla, with the community realizing, instead of pointing fingers at each other or at the local frum elected officials, that we must unite against anti-Semitic agitators trying to damage our beautiful Kehilla.
