Super Exciting Food Rescue:
Brooklyn, NY – In a heartwarming effort just before Rosh Hashanah, a major food rescue operation is underway, helping to feed over 2,000 struggling families in Brooklyn, with critical support from DoorDash. This operation ensures that families in need receive food for the upcoming Yomim Tovim, a time when community and celebration are especially important.
Food rescue is the process of reclaiming food that is no longer saleable but is still safe and nutritious. Instead of going to waste, this food is redistributed to feed the hungry. This effort includes nine large bins of frozen meat from one company and 1,400 cases of frozen apple chunks from another, along with additional food items. These goods are being delivered directly to families in need.
Deliveries, powered by DoorDash, are happening this week across Brooklyn. The initiative ensures that families experiencing economic hardship can celebrate the holidays with dignity and without the worry of where their next meal will come from.
“These donations came at a critical time,” said Alexander Rapaport, Executive Director of Masbia Soup Kitchen Network. “We are extremely grateful to all our partners, and to DoorDash for generously donating the cost of deliveries, enabling us to reach these families and ensure they don’t go hungry during this significant time of year.”
This effort showcases the power of community collaboration, with businesses, charities, and volunteers coming together to support those most in need. Masbia’s food supply is currently low, and this influx of rescued food is an enormous relief. To sustain efforts throughout the High Holiday season, Masbia is working to raise close to one million dollars. An anonymous donor has generously offered to match every two dollars raised with an additional dollar, up to $250,000. For more details, visit Masbia.org/hh24.
