Brooklyn, NY – A monumental event attended by hundreds of Chabad chasidim in Crown Heights, Jewish community leaders throughout Brooklyn, and NYC elected officials, took place Sunday afternoon to co-name President Street, the street of the Lubavitcher Rebbe’s house, as “Lubavitcher Rebbe Way” to honor and recognize the significant impact of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, who had resided on this street.
The Rebbe’s house on President Street is two-blocks from 770 Chabad-Lubavitch World Headquarters.
The initiative was organized by Crown Heights community activist Rabbi Yaacov Behrman, and the street co-name unveiling was made possible after a resolution was passed in the NYS Senate, and introduced in the City Council.
The event was celebrated with much excitement and appreciation by the Crown Heights Jewish Community, and by the thousands of Chabad Shluchim from Lubavitch centers and Chabad houses worldwide.
What an interesting twist! Joel Gross, son of the legendary Satmar housing activist Tuli Gross OBM, unveiling a ‘Lubavitcher Rebbe’ plaque on President Street. Who would have thought? @ChabadLubavitch Crown Heights is just full of surprises! 🙄 #UnexpectedAlliances #CrownHeights pic.twitter.com/M5NP3fjNpt
