U.S.A. – Canada. Over the past several months Chavivim volunteers across multiple divisions have responded to numerous ‘tire blowout’ calls for assistance that were received by the Chavivim dispatch hotline. Upon arriving at the location, the members discovered that many of the vehicles were not equipped with a spare tire.

Thankfully each Chavivim division has a stockpile of spare tires at their local garage, needed precisely for such situations—and were able to resolve the tire blowout calls.

Spare tires are no longer standard equipment on many newer-model cars for a combination of reasons, including—to reduce production cost, to create extra trunk space and because manufacturers are looking to improve fuel economy by reducing weight, which a spare tire adds extra weight to a vehicle. Some newer cars utilize run-flat tires which allow driving for a limited distance even when punctured, negating the need for a spare tire, if a new tire is replaced shortly afterwards.

According to recent date released by the auto industry, nearly 40% of 2025 model vehicles are not equipped with a spare tire or even a temporary “donut” tire.

Purchasing a spare tire cost an average of $150, a modest investment which if a vehicle is not equipped with—can potentially cost the motorist significantly more if stranded on an “out of area interstate highway” with the likelihood of the vehicle getting towed to the closest auto mechanic shop. Typically flat tires on a highway are blowouts, due to the high-speed a vehicle is traveling.

Chavivim headquarters released a statement “Imagine getting stranded on the highway with a flat tire and no spare. It could cost you hours of unnecessary frustration and delay. A spare tire is not just a convenience-it’s a critical safety component for every car on the road.”
