At around 4 am local time, a large explosion was heard in Tel Aviv, on Ben Yehuda Street at the corner of Shalom Aleichem street, less than 100 meters away from the U.S. Embassy in Tel Aviv.
It is not yet confirmed, but it is largely suspected to have been an attack drone.
At least one person was killed and eight people were lightly injured and taken to hospital for treatment in stable condition.
Windows were shattered in the 10-meter radius.
The IDF said that no projectiles were detected before the explosion: “An initial inquiry indicates that the explosion in Tel Aviv was caused by the falling of an aerial target, and no sirens were activated. The incident is under thorough review. Israeli security forces are currently operating at the scene.
“The Israeli Air Force increased its air patrols in order to protect Israeli airspace.”
The Home Front Command stated, “No aerial intrusion into central Israel was detected and therefore, no siren was triggered – the incident is under investigation.”
In CCTV footage of the explosion, what sounds like a drone can be heard shortly before the explosion. Amongst the debris at the site of the crash are what appear to be drone wings, very similar to Hezbollah’s drones seen in Northern Israel. The dominant theory at the moment (not confirmed), is that the drone was flown in over the Mediterranean Sea in the pitch dark, and entered Israel undetected.
No terror group has taken credit yet.
The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) stated it successfully destroyed two surface-to-air missiles (SAM) and four uncrewed aerial vehicles (UAV) on the ground in Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen, in the past 24 hours.
