Customers of Verizon and AT&T, the two largest wireless carriers in the U.S., are reporting an outage, though the companies said there is no “National outage.”
Users, primarily concentrated in the Northeast, as well also Chicago, Detroit and Seattle, reported on DownDetector that problems began for AT&T and Verizon customers around 1:00 PM Eastern on Tuesday and have skyrocketed over the last few hours.
AT&T said that the network is not “experiencing a nationwide outage, but we are aware of an issue that is affecting the ability of some customers to complete cellular calls between carriers. We are working collaboratively among affected carriers to determine the quickest path to resolution.”
Verizon likewise stated that there is ”no widespread Verizon outage.” But, “some customers [are] experienced issues when calling or texting customers on other carriers who are having issues, and we’re monitoring the situation in real-time.”
AT&T later clarified that “there is a known issue affecting calls between carriers. Please know calls between our customers are not impacted and carriers are working to resolve as soon as possible.
Last week, some Midwest and Western Verizon customers reported outages with their cell service.
This is a developing story and will be updated when more information is available.
